Welcome to the Bronchitol Information Center, providing essential medical information about Bronchitol (mannitol) inhalation powder, which is specifically designed to help individuals with Cystic Fibrosis (CF) manage their lung health.
BRONCHITOL is a prescription medicine that is used together with other therapies to improve lung function in adults (18 years of age and older) with cystic fibrosis (CF).
BRONCHITOL is only for adults who have passed the BRONCHITOL Tolerance Test (BTT). Your first dose of BRONCHITOL is given during the BTT by your healthcare practitioner and tests if BRONCHITOL is right for you. Your healthcare practitioner will use equipment to monitor you and have medicine ready if you start to experience bronchospasm during the test. If you experience bronchospasm during your BTT, then you should not be prescribed BRONCHITOL.
If you pass the BTT and are prescribed BRONCHITOL, you will take it 2 times per day using a handheld, compact inhaler small enough to carry with you.

BRONCHITOL is not intended to be used as a rescue medication. Inhaler and blister pack are not actual size and are for representation only. Use an inhaled bronchodilator 5–15 minutes before taking BRONCHITOL.

Bronchitol is a dry powder inhalation medication that contains mannitol, a sugar alcohol, as its active ingredient. Mannitol acts as an osmotic agent. When inhaled, it is thought to draw water into the airways, helping to loosen the thick, sticky mucus commonly found in cystic fibrosis. This process helps improve lung function and breathing by producing a productive (good) cough to help remove mucus or sputum from your lungs. Bronchitol is available in capsules filled with dry powder, which are delivered through a specialized inhaler.
